Reasons for Testing
Parents typically seek psychological evaluations for children because of behavior problems, poor grades, failure
to turn in homework assignments, or friendship. Pediatricians or teachers may also recommend an evaluation for a
child who seems depressed, anxious, defiant, or aggressive. Some of the assessment services that we offer to meet
these needs include:
- Learning Disability (LD) Assessment / Dyslexia
- Attention Deficit, Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Assessments
- Assessment for Mood, Adjustment, Anxiety, or Impulse Control Disorders
Types of Assessments Used
We utilize the following assessments within our office for children between the ages of 6 and 16:
- The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) is an intelligence test that generates an IQ score of a
child's general cognitive ability. The test takes 65-90 minutes to administer.
- The Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT) is a test measuring word reading, sentence comprehension, spelling,
and math computation. The test takes 30-50 minutes to administer.
- The Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC) is an online, self-report assessment and usually completed by parents and a teacher to help understand the behavior and emotions of the child in different settings. The test takes 10-20 minutes to complete.
What to Expect/Fees
Testing begins with an initial assessment of a child's development, health, behavior, schools/learning, and
parent concerns. This initial appointment is scheduled with the parent only for children younger than 10. For
children older than 10, they are able to participate in the initial assessment. This initial assessment is able
to be billed with most insurances as an In-network provider through the Center for Counseling & Family
Relationships.
The testing is scheduled if deemed appropriate from the initial assessment and occurs within a 2-4 hour block of
time. These hours may be broken into two separate days depending on the therapist’s schedule.
The final appointment scheduled is for the results and recommendations to be addressed with those that attended
the initial appointment. This session is also able to filed by our office with most insurances as an In-network
provider through the Center for Counseling & Family Relationships.
The assessments of the child are billed through the Center for Testing. The fee is $1,000 and the full amount is to be paid before any tests or assessments are administered. This
fee includes all assessments and a report with recommendations. Our office DOES NOT file insurance for the
testing fees. A receipt is available upon request for client’s to bill their insurance for the cost of the
testing for Out-of-Network benefits.
Our goal is to provide quality affordable testing to our surrounding communities. Other offices may be able to
file as an In-Network provider, but leave the client responsible for what the insurance doesn't pay. This fee can
often be higher than $1,000.
